Meftal belongs to a category of medications known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It functions by lowering the levels of hormones that lead to inflammation and pain in the body. Meftal is prescribed for alleviating pain or inflammation associated with arthritis and is also utilized for treating menstrual discomfort. Avoid using this medication shortly before or after undergoing heart bypass surgery (commonly referred to as coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Meftal should be taken orally, typically four times daily with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) or as instructed by your physician. Refrain from lying down for a minimum of 10 minutes after taking the medication. If you experience stomach upset, consider taking this drug with food or milk.
To minimize the risk of stomach bleeding and other adverse effects, take Meftal at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Do not increase your dosage, take it more often, or extend your usage beyond what is prescribed. This medication is generally not intended for use for more than 7 consecutive days.
Meftal is intended for the short-term management of mild to moderate pain arising from various conditions. It is also effective in reducing pain and blood loss during menstrual periods.
